born in rouen in a middle-class family he was always passionate about literature and cinema - something he passed onto his children - moving to paris when he was barely 18. wwII happened when he was in his 20s but he didn't go to battle, instead began a writing career and joined the resistance. he was a strong presence within his family when he was alive, and still is despite his premature death in summer 1985 from a heart attack. he was a journalist, screenwriter, director, actor and novelist who has a strong legacy and is still a big influence in french cinema today - there is a square in paris named after him. i am using a bit of audiard's RL backstory (especially the war stuff).
